European Nightcrawlers (Eisenia hortensis)

European Nightcrawlers also known as  ENC, Catchall, Crawlers, and Euros. Share many of the same traits as that of African Nightcrawlers, Red and Tiger Worms. Making them suitable to use as a compost worm, yet red and tiger worms are the most preferred worm to use for composting. European Nightcrawlers are slightly larger than red and tiger worms, consuming nearly half of their body weight in food each day making them ideal for composting, fishing and rehabilitating native wildlife. They can digest more material than red wigglers.

Temperatures between 15C - 25C are ideal for European Nightcrawlers, but they can withstand temperatures ranging from 7C - 35C. When the temperature drops below 7 degree Celsius, ENCs must be protected from the elements.

European nightcrawlers can easily compost leaves, garden waste, food scraps, and leftovers. In fact, they can eat any decomposing matter suitable for worms as long as moisture and their bedding is a neutral environment and doesn't generate too much heat and acid. If you intend to breed the European Nightcrawlers as food source  for native animals or for fishing, you must ensure for  longevity to feed and house as per recommendations.

European Nightcrawlers make excellent bait in Fresh or Salt Water. What makes these worms great is their versatility, they do not necessarily require refrigeration and will survive in appropriate conditions yet if you wish to prolong their life for your next fishing trip they can be refrigerated at 7C-9 degree Celsius which will increase their life span up to three (3) months.
